My Current Relationship With Media

 

    My relationship with media is a love-hate relationship. I love being connected with my friends and others around the world, getting to see how different people live and how we can connect to each other is a great thing. Showing what others what you do for fun, or because you have to, you can share your feelings about certain things in the world. It is a place where not only people can share their ideas on things, but how they can change things for the better. There are many times where I don't like social media at all. This is due to the fact that so much bullying is done through social media. I have known many people who have been bullied on social media and I can not stand it. It causes other people to think of someone a certain way just because they heard it from someone else.
    With regards to news media, I have been closely connected with it for many reasons. Especially with the recent events in the world, with the violence and the government problems. I have been greatly invested in the news reported daily. Learning about how our country and world is doing economically and socially has widened my view on the world, and I have begun to see other sides of situations I might not have taken a second look at. Watching what has been happening around the world has increased my knowledge about the world in which I live in, and as I have been inspired to find different small and big ways to help our world become a better place.
    Finally, media has played a big part in my life, but not to a point where my whole life is based on it. I have spent many hours watching movies and televisions shows throughout my life, but I have learned recently that the media is not all that is good in life. I have learned to spend less time on media and spend more time with those whom I care for. I believe media has influenced my life by helping me realize that I can live a full and happy life without media. Although I realize this, I can also include media use in my life for entertainment and be involved with the news of the world in a positive way.

  Shopping in malls over winter break was fun, seeing all the different choices our shopping centers provides for us. But while walking by many different stores I started to notice that many stores such as PacSun try and sell their brand to teenagers with the same tactics.          Personally, I consume a lot of media daily, but I do not think that I actually take all of what I see or hear and apply it to my life. I like to live my life knowing that I am who I am because of who I want to be, not because of what others want me to be. Who I am is based on all the ways of life I see in the media and around me, but I feel I take different parts of different ways of life into mine. Being aware of media I have not watched as much of a variety of media because I have realized I have started judging all types of media. Even the media I used to watch every day. I don’t watch as many shows anymore because I have realized some of the ideas they are portraying to the viewers, so my list of what I watch have narrowed done. The commercial is an advertisement for Samsung phone, which expresses that you will not be happy, successful or be the best if you do not get the newest Samsung phone. It shows the main character upgrading to new iPhone every couple of years throughout his teenage years to adulthood. Then, when he finally switches to a Samsung phone, happiness is achieved. The iPhones never satisfy the customer no matter what.    This commercial connects a supposed average millennial to all who have phones of any age. It shows the evolution of iPhones compared to the evolution of Samsung phones.
