Image result for a mob of people running into a store

I have not been able to watch much television in the past week, week and a half, but when  I was able to catch a little on the tube I would see the same commercial repeatedly. The commercial is an advertisement for Samsung phone, which expresses that you will not be happy, successful or be the best if you do not get the newest Samsung phone. It shows the main character upgrading to new iPhone every couple of years throughout his teenage years to adulthood. Then, when he finally switches to a Samsung phone, happiness is achieved. The iPhones never satisfy the customer no matter what.
This commercial connects a supposed average millennial to all who have phones of any age. It shows the evolution of iPhones compared to the evolution of Samsung phones. The advertisement goes through years of new iPhones that the guy has, as opposed to his girlfriend who has a Samsung phone. There a couple of scenes that show a long line of people waiting for what seems to be many hours, looking miserable and in one instance with raining pouring all over them. This ad pushes you to think in order to have an easier life of not having to have problems with your phone, such as dropping the phones in water. The results are then to place the iPhone in rice, while the Samsung phone is good as new. Another life problem the iPhones cause is with all the cords. These chords are used to charge your phone and listen to music. In contrast, the Samsung charges the phone cordlessly. The Samsung company also expresses diversity through this commercial. They are an open company that shows minority in a successful situation that they can afford a Samsung Android. They are not a racist company but a diverse company that shows successful African Americans with a nice house, nice trips with family, and nice clothes.
In watching this commercial I personally saw many examples of why people would trade in their iPhone for a Samsung. In my own home, my parents have Samsungs, and I have an iPhone. From watching how their phones work, I would rather keep my phone. Commercials for phones target people who want to improve their lives any way they can so they can be the best and most advanced person compared to their peers. These ads bring a sense of competition to be better than others. The commercial enhances the message of materialism. Be happy with what you have, in this case, a phone, instead of being happy with the simple things in life.
