No matter what a girl or women look like, we are shamed for how our bodies look. Even from a young age, boys judge girls how men judge women. I am not saying that all men judge women by what their body looks like, but a large majority of men do shame women. Due to the degrading of women and girls, there is a lower percentage of girls wanting to run for higher positions in their line of work, especially in politics. It is sad to say but a great number of men judge women who are running for a political office not by their qualifications, but by what they are wearing and how they look. Yet when men run people talk about what they say regarding politics and what they believe in, for the most part. Many businesses, such as Calvin Klein, are taking part in influencing men and young boys to compare women and girls to these models which are in no way realistic.
Calvin Klein is a very highly thought of company due to their quality if clothes, but they are just like every other clothing company. In their ads, they use women who are very skinny, which makes it easier for the editors to make them even more skinny so they look “perfect.” The editors make the women’s skin look perfect with no imperfections on their body. When in reality what they make the models look like is in no way, shape, or form what anyone can look like. The model himself does not look the same in real life compared to the advertisement. Due to the ads with the “perfect women,” men based what they think women should look like in real life, and when they don’t look like the model's many men disregarded the women who do meet the standards of “perfection.” Even some boys are judging young girls about what they look like based off of the women in the advertisements.
The media plays a huge role in our society. What viewers see on tv forms the way we shape our thoughts about certain ideas and people. In this case, there is a big problem with girls and women being more self-conscious of what they look like. No men or boy should be judging women and girls by what they look like and comparing them to models in ads that are photoshopped to look unrealistic. Boys need to be taught at a young age that what they see in the media is not always true and that you should not judge someone because they look different than the models in the magazines.

  1. I think that the main reason companies like Calvin Klein show "perfect" women in their ads is because they want the audience to associate beauty with their brand. This concept is extremely self serving, which shouldn't be surprising considering that ads are made for the benefit of a specific corporation. However, it is truly irresponsible to produce mass amounts of toxic media and not consider how it could negatively effect the targeted demographic.
