Personally, I consume a lot of media daily, but I do not think that I actually take all of what I see or hear and apply it to my life. I like to live my life knowing that I am who I am because of who I want to be, not because of what others want me to be. Who I am is based on all the ways of life I see in the media and around me, but I feel I take different parts of different ways of life into mine. Being aware of media I have not watched as much of a variety of media because I have realized I have started judging all types of media. Even the media I used to watch every day. I don’t watch as many shows anymore because I have realized some of the ideas they are portraying to the viewers, so my list of what I watch have narrowed done. I have also started to really only watch shows that I have recorded because then I don’t have to watch the commercials anymore. By learning about how companies try to sell us products I can’t stand watching commercials that have women who are st

Today cell phones are a big part of most peoples live in the world today. But is it more positively or negatively affecting our lives? Cell phones and social media can help us connect to others around the world if we wanted to, and create great relationships with people that we would have probably had never met if it weren't for cell phones or social media. But recently our phones have gotten so advanced that there are many apps for different things such as watching tv on your phone or social media, for example, snapchat and Instagram. The media influences our lives to the point where if kids see something on tv or something such as youtube they think it is ok for them to do because someone else did it as well. Parents are having to restrict their kids from watching certain things online that millions of people have access to such as Jake Paul vlogs. Jake Paul is a very bad influence on kids, he treats others with no respect and he is not aware of how his actions might

No matter what a girl or women look like, we are shamed for how our bodies look. Even from a young age, boys judge girls how men judge women. I am not saying that all men judge women by what their body looks like, but a large majority of men do shame women. Due to the degrading of women and girls, there is a lower percentage of girls wanting to run for higher positions in their line of work, especially in politics. It is sad to say but a great number of men judge women who are running for a political office not by their qualifications, but by what they are wearing and how they look. Yet when men run people talk about what they say regarding politics and what they believe in, for the most part. Many businesses, such as Calvin Klein, are taking part in influencing men and young boys to compare women and girls to these models which are in no way realistic. Calvin Klein is a very highly thought of company due to their quality if clothes, but they are just like every other

Shopping in malls over winter break was fun, seeing all the different choices our shopping centers provides for us. But while walking by many different stores I started to notice that many stores such as PacSun try and sell their brand to teenagers with the same tactics. When selling their brand to a teenager they use advertisements that will catch the eye of a teenager by putting out pictures that are trending. Such as pictures of what seems to be people in their twenties spending time with friends or posing in pictures taken in LA, which to most people is known to be a modern trendy cool place to be. Whether it be in the middle of the city, in the hills, or on the beach. PacSun and other companies like it use the tool of “cool hunting” to attract teens to buy their products. “Cool Hunting” is an advertising technique that marketing professionals use to find the trends of today to based their advertisements off of to sell more off a certain brand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFActrWK8ls Watching tv on Friday I came across this commercial at least five times in two hours. I never really pay attention to commercials but this one struck my attention. Probably because I love Christmas and the commercial is Christmas themed or because I love NBA basketball and Lebron James was in the advertisement. This commercial uses the advertising technique of testimonial because it uses a famous person to help sell their brand, in this case, it is Lebron James. Lebron James is shown with another famous person who is the face of intel, Jim Parson, who is from the Big Bang Theory. Jim Parson is the ghost from Christmas future, who shows James what his family will look like if he does not buy them a new computer from Intel. It shows his family having electronics that does not work without a computer from Intel and the whole family looks confused and disappointed. This commercial shows what a stereotypical Christmas morning looks lik

Driving on the road no matter where I am I see big rigs with the advertisement of the company they are driving on the side of their trucks. I see many different companies with the guerilla advertisements, but personally, the one that I see the most is FedEx trucks. I believe most people will agree with me that the big rigs are very annoying on the road because they drive slower due to the excess load they are carrying, but they still annoy you due to their lack of initiative to get somewhere. What people don't realize is that most likely later that day you will complain to someone about that truck who you couldn't drive around, and you will probably name the company the truck is for due to the advertisement on the side of the truck. We do not realize how much we remember about the big rigs we pass on the road, but we remember a lot. Not only do we remember it was a big rig, but we go as far as remembering the brand on the truck. The companies who own that tr

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R59TevgzN3k I have not been able to watch much television in the past week, week and a half, but when I was able to catch a little on the tube I would see the same commercial repeatedly. The commercial is an advertisement for Samsung phone, which expresses that you will not be happy, successful or be the best if you do not get the newest Samsung phone. It shows the main character upgrading to new iPhone every couple of years throughout his teenage years to adulthood. Then, when he finally switches to a Samsung phone, happiness is achieved. The iPhones never satisfy the customer no matter what. This commercial connects a supposed average millennial to all who have phones of any age. It shows the evolution of iPhones compared to the evolution of Samsung phones. The advertisement goes through years of new iPhones that the guy has, as opposed to his girlfriend who has a Samsung phone. There a couple of scenes that show a long line of people w
